Formal uniform is a student uniform reserved for university ceremonies, e.g. new student orientation ceremony, Wai Khru ceremony (the ceremony to salute the teachers), commencement ceremony, including other special occasions designated by the University.
Male graduates are required to wear a navy blue suit with a plain white long-sleeved shirt and buttons, NOT made of metal and a navy blue necktie embossed with the University’s emblem OR a dark blue necktie. (Black suit is NOT allowed.) Any male graduate from any affiliated institute is required to wear the uniform representing his faculty/college/institute with dark-colored socks, plain black leather shoes (with no metal embellished ornaments or decorations), and academic attire. Proper hairstyle is required while long nails are prohibited.
• Female graduates are required to wear a female student uniform with the Mahidol University bow tie, and a dark blue skirt which is not too tight, too long, nor too short to obstruct proper curtsying. (Black skirt is NOT allowed.) Any graduate from any affiliated institute is required to wear the uniform representing her faculty/college/institute with nude tights/hose/stockings, plain black pump shoes, and academic attire. (Stiletto heels are NOT allowed.) Hairstyles with bangs or fringes and accessories, e.g. bracelets, rings, hair ribbons, as well as long nails are NOT allowed. Graduates with pregnancy are required to wear a plain white maternity dress whose length is shorter than the academic gown.
Graduates, master’s and doctoral, are required to wear academic attire of their degree received. The velvet trim bordering the hood indicates the major field of the study, or faculty/college/institute in which the degree has been earned. For example, graduates who earn the degree from Master of Science Program (Public Health) with a major in Public Health Nursing at the Faculty of Science are required to wear a gown with a gold velvet border lining, not the pink one.
