Overseas Short Courses

The following courses are available to offer in Myanmar as face-to-face and online teaching mode. These courses are part of the post-graduate courses currently running in Mahidol University.

Civil Engineering

Advanced Foundation Engineering (3 credits course)

Course content - Piles and drilled shafts; analysis of laterally loaded piles; pile groups; piled foundations for offshore structures; earth pressure theories; retaining walls; coffer dams; buried structures; advanced technologies in foundation engineering

02.
Finite Element Method for Civil Engineering (3 credits course)

Course content - Basic equations of three-dimensional elasticity; derivation of relevant variational principles; finite element approximation; convergence requirements; isoparametric elements in two and three dimensions; implementational considerations; problems involving non-linear material behaviors

03.
Seismic Design and Rehabilitation (3 credits course)

Course content - Design codes for seismic-resistant design of structures; analysis methods for seismic forces; evaluation of existing structures; rehabilitation techniques for buildings

04.
Geoinformatics System in Engineering (3 credits course)

Course content - Theory and basic concept of geoinformatics; geoinformatics data; spatial data structure; surveying; mapping; geo-referencing; data collection; data modeling; use of software for geoinformatics in civil engineering fields


Fees – 400 US$ per course

Study hours

  • Courses offered in Yangon, Myanmar (face-to-face)
  • 3 credits (45 hours) for lecture and classroom discussion: Courses offering on weekdays (for 2 weeks) for classroom lectures.
  • Completion certificate and grading transcript will be issued on successful completion of the course.
  • Minimum 20 students/course.
  • Course will be offered in March, 2020.

Admission requirement

  • A graduate with Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering or related discipline
  • Have a cumulative GPA of not less than 2.50 in Bachelor degree
  • Proficient in academic English

Environmental Engineering

Physico-chemical processes (for water supply) (3 credits course)

Course content - Physical principles and design criteria used in separating liquids and solids from liquid; unit operations in water and wastewater treatment systems; screening; grit removal; mixing; coagulation; flocculation; flotation; sedimentation; adsorption; filtration; sludge dewatering, water distribution system


Fees – 400 US$ per course

Study hours

  • 3 credits (45 hours): 35 hours for lecture and classroom discussion; 10 hours for online lecture
  • Courses offering on weekend (for 3 weeks) for classroom lectures and online afterwards.
  • Course will be offered March, 2020.

Admission requirement

  • A graduate with Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor in Science degree
  • Have a cumulative GPA of not less than 2.50 in Bachelor degree
  • Proficient in academic English
